Inspiration
Pockitt is inspired by simple, creative, and fun chatting tools from our youth such as Pictochat for the Nintendo DS, and connecting with the community around us in a new way.
What it does
Pockitt connects users in close physical locations with each other, allowing them to chat anonymously with simple yet fun options such as text chat, drawing, a minigame invite, and more! It's focused on simplicity and creativity, so no emojis, no images or gifs, no pasting, just whatever you can come up with in words or drawings!
How we built it
We used ASP.NET Core for the backend along with SignalR for connectivity, then we used TypeScript and HTML/CSS for frontend, with Node.js for package management. Additionally, we used Docker for development compatibility.
Challenges we ran into
Issues with development compatibility (each developer was on a different OS), connectivity based on geolocation, UI design, etc.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our decisions in planning and preparing a solid idea were successful, although more time would have allowed for a more fully realized product, we think our idea has great potential for future development. We also made solid decisions with regard to the tech stack and ensuring good development practices and teamwork.
What we learned
24 hours is really a short amount of time to create a modern web app entirely from scratch. We also learned that AI tools are effective as coding collabators.
What's next for Pockitt
Further implementation of our vision, implementing our minigames feature, further improving the UI and user experience, promoting the app to the public, and a fully developed mobile app version to go alongside our current web version.
