Inspiration

For beginner investors, big changes in the stock market can be a very scary time. Recently, with the rise of Deepseek, millions of investors in the American market have faced great stress due to dramatic dips in Nvidia, OpenAI, etc. We seek to keep newer investors aware of current stock market data and provide the necessary news to make informed decisions with their portfolios.

What it does

PopUpTrading offers notifications, a personalized watchlist, and charts for selected tickers and delivers the latest stock market information and news. This helps new investors stay informed and make smart investment decisions.

How we built it

We integrated PopUpTrading with real-time and historical market data with AlphaVantage API and we trained the data using the LSTM model to predict the stock price and used Natural Language Processing (NLP) to provide relevant and supporting documentation based on the ticker and market news. We used React, Bootstrap, Axios, and others to design the website.

We encountered challenges with limited API resources, and installing TensorFlow on a MacBook. Making

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We integrated machine learning techniques and models within a full-stack project. We each took on roles that we were not comfortable with and succeeded in learning many of the fundamentals that come with those roles.

What we learned

Long short-term memory (LSTM) machine learning model to predict the stock market and tried out different API interactions to create accurate predictions.

What's next for PopUpTrading

Use news sentiment surrounding a specific stock ticker to affect the prediction for the future.
Inform users of decisions made by wealthy individuals to keep them aware of what is happening within the business realms
Alert system for users for when their stocks drop or rise significantly.
