Inspiration
In 2022, Germany has received 1 million refugees due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. This is not the first time that Germany received a high number of refugees. And yet, until now, refugees still face difficulties in getting their needs, finding information, and integrating into the German culture.
On the other hand, a lot of people want to help those who arrived in Germany seeking refugees. But they also lack the information and resources on how to help.
What if, there is a platform that enables refugees to find help and for local citizens to help them? That is where IntegrApp comes to play: Bringing people together in difficult times
What it does
Refugees:
- Refugees can find items they need and also "like" certain items that they urgently need. This collects data on which items are needed for them.
- Refugees can join courses that might help them gather skills and integrate better. These courses could also potentially help with their daily lives, e.g. at work.
- Refugees can join events to connect with other people and build a social network in their new home.
- Refugees can easily ask and follow discussions on certain topics in the forum.
Local Citizens:
- Local citizens can check which items are currently on-demand and learn where to donate them.
- Local citizens can teach courses for refugees easily with the platform.
- Local citizens can organize an event to help social networking, have fun, etc.
- Local citizens can help answer questions in the forum.
How we built it
Frontend was made with html, css, javascript. Backend was made with python. Connected the two with flask.
Challenges we ran into
We built a machine learning model for recommendation systems. But we did not have any data, so we had to create fake data ourselves. That took a loooooong time...
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Get a working web app and deploy it.
What we learned
We learned that for the next Hackatum we should probably bring blankets. It is verrrry cold.
What's next for IntegrApp
Sleep at our home with the heater on.
