PrepMe

Inspiration:

As college students who have actively been on the job search, we figured we need something like this in our life that is different from the existing platforms that can help us prepare for interviews.

What it does

Our app trains you to be prepared for both technical and behavioral interviews. We found typically asked questions and instead of just checking to see if the students have correctly answered the questions, we take time to ensure they understand the process regardless of their skill level.

How we built it

Using Figma, we prototyped the app. In addition to that, we used the data we found when researching commonly asked behavioral interview questions to extract the keywords that are found in the proper responses to these frequently asked questions. By training a Random Forest Classifier with these keywords, we could score potential interview responses.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with getting the emulator, ExpoGo, to work. It held us up a lot in terms of converting our prototype to a working app. Even after speaking with mentors and the online community, we did not resolve the issue despite our efforts. We also struggled to use CockroachDB to deploy the app. Our edits in the Replit workspace from the CockroachDB workshop would not appear when running the code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of thinking of the idea and gathering the necessary resources and knowledge from the workshops available to be able to turn our ideas into reality. We are also proud of how well the Figma wireframes turned out. The visuals make it easy to picture the full user experience.

What we learned

How to utilize machine learning to analyze natural language and grade/score interview responses to help people learn better phrasing for tough questions and how to highlight their skills for potential employers.

What's next for PrepMe

This could actually be converted into an actual startup with time and guidance. We believe the app has the potential to help students succeed in landing a job in tech through our engaging platform. PrepMe is a no-stress way to prepare for interviews with fun game elements to keep users motivated to win.
