Inspiration
Our health data is critically sensitive, yet not taken seriously by those who have access to it, as shown by the numerous studies conducted about the prevalence of unsecured health apps on the market. With nearly 90% of health apps found to be able to access user data, we wanted to address this issue with the cutting-edge encryption technology of The@Company's peer-to-peer data sharing capabilities.
Because of its constantly changing nature, health data benefits the most from having the ability to revoke someone else’s access to it, as compared to photos or files that could be saved in the long term. That’s how we got the spark of inspiration to build Priv@teFit — a health app that lets you record your fitness data and share it with who you want and when you want, all powered by the secure peer-to-peer network of The@Company.

What it does
Our application allows users to share their health data with friends through an encrypted peer-to-peer connection. The user interface offers three panes with a bottom navigation bar. In the first pane, the user can view a feed of them and their friends’ activity logs. In the second pane, the user can share their own activities and fitness schedules, including data such as location, activity, and time. Finally, in the third pane, you can customize who can see your own log.
How we built it
We used the @platform alongside Flutter and Dart to implement our program. We used Visual Studio Code and were able to test our program both for iOS (Xcode) and Android devices (AVD).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were both unfamiliar with Flutter, Dart, and The@Platform, so it was difficult but exciting to learn them within a short timespan. Flutter is a huge framework with lots of moving parts (stateful vs stateless, for example) so we were happy we got a nice looking, functional application through it in such a limited amount of time.
What's next for Priv@teFit
We think that Priv@teFit could be improved by allowing users to share images and running routes. We also think it would be great if we could automatically import and share training data from Garmin watches or Fitbit devices on our platform.
