Inspiration
Commuting with a bike instead of a car can be a great way of decreasing your carbon footprint. However, this isn't done as much as it could be. We wanted a way to push people to use greener means of transport, to help combat global warming.
What it does
The app incentivises eco-responsable means of transportation like walking, biking and public transport by rewarding users with points. When a user starts a trip, the app tracks their movement, and gives out points depending on the distance of the trip.
Businesses can offer coupons, discounts or other rewards, which can then be redeemed by users with their points.
How we built it
We used Svelte with Ionic for the UI and Cloud Firestore for the database. The app was put on android with Android Studio.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The main features of the app we had outlined at the start of the project were achieved. We think the user interface is clear and concise.
What we learned
For some of us, this was the first time working with a NoSQL database.
What's next for Pricycle
Aside from some small changes, the next step would be releasing the app and looking for potential sponsors.
