The inspiration for this project is my Advanced Placement Language and Composition class. The assignments presented within the class involved some sort of bias where we had to analyze or confirm some type of bias presented in the article. So, this new project served as a tool to assist Advanced Placement Language students or other English students dealing with bias at a higher level.
What project BIAS does is it confirms political biases in certain articles that students of an AP Language class might be thinking about using for their assignments. When it has input with a biased article it will have parameters of certain percentages to determine if it is politically right, left, or neutral leaning.
We built it through the usage of HTML, Gemini API, and Python mainly. The usage of HTML was to modify the website's visual components, and the usage of Gemini's API and Python was to assist with the actual function of the website application.
Working with and around the Gemini API was a little bit of a struggle, but the main mountain of challenge we had was HTML none of us knew what HTML was and it was hard to deal with programming-wise.
The accomplishments we are proud of are the usage of modern technology concepts like the Gemini API and Python and the creation of a website like HTML.
That programming is a struggle for most, including us it's hard.
We're hopefully going add recommendations for user-inputted essays to lower the amount of bias used as well as tracking how much ethos, pathos, and logos are found in an essay.
