Inspiration

There persist many problems related to the mental health of teenage girls. According to WHO, Mental health conditions account for 16% of the global burden of disease and injury in people aged 10-19 years, especially girls. So there is a need to understand mental health as it helps an individual to cope with the normal stresses of life. With many changes happening in and around oneself as a teenager, misinformation through social platforms such as Facebook and Instagram can mislead teenagers into wrongdoings. Thus to avoid this we wanted to provide a safe environment for teenage girls to ask and approach trusted and reliable responders with certified resources through Halcyon.

What it does

Halcyon is a platform that provides a space for daily journaling and the journal is then interpreted through natural language processing and artificial intelligence. This then predicts the user’s mood and provides suggestions with gifs, movies, or podcasts. After this, the user can proceed to the mental health bot that studies the symptoms and helps in scheduling appointments with doctors or the community platform where girls can help one another through tough times.

How we built it

Our main services used in this project include the use of Azure services. We have used the azure NLP for text analysis. Besides this our AI services also include the azure mental health bot for treatment and diagnosis. We also have a mood journaling platform which recommends podcasts, inspirational videos, and also daily tasks from Resources such as Spotify and YouTube. Our web applications runs on #html,#CSS, #JavaScript,#PHP,#mysql.

Challenges we ran into

For the three of us working at the backend was something new. We did face a few challenges debugging the code, correcting them. We are happy to learn something new through this project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really happy that we were able to execute and put forth our idea into a vision. Being teenagers we know the kind of difficulties a teenage girl goes through. And thus we wanted to make a platform that would help to address these challenges.

What we learned

Throughout this project what we learned was to manage time. As a team of three sophomores engineering girls, we really learned how to balance time between college and working on this wonderful project.

What's next for Project Halcyon

We aim in expanding our vision not just in the field of mental health, but also focus on healthcare and lifestyle.
