Inspiration

Now a days, people want be keep their health up, physically and mentally. So we thought of an idea for an app that will help out with that, called Wake Up! Also, we thought of other ideas of apps that could help out people in need and in everyday life. The amount of poverty, sick, and helpless people and animals on this planet is large. One of our other apps is the Charity app, which allows people to donate to charities with just the tap of a button. Our other app is the disaster prevention app, it provides safe routes on roads when there are natural disasters.

What it does

We wanted to create a Fitness app (Wake Up) that was mainly accessible in the morning, this idea would motivate people to get up and start the day positive and with a workout. These workouts would be tracked and once completed would be earned achievements which could be shared among friends who use the app as well. The App is only available whenever the user wakes up, this is taken into consideration for people who work the night shift. We also created a non-profit app called Founder. Founder is an app that lets users to easily and quickly donate money to the charities they want it to go towards. Founder provides the user with a list of organizations that the user might be interested in. If the user wants they can donate money to the charity. Also users don't need to worry about the app taking money from their donations because all the money goes straight towards where the user wants it to go to.

How we built it

All of the apps we built this weekend were mainly used with Android Studio and many other different resources we could find. We thought about using different pieces of hardware, but we ended up using out laptops and the new programs we downloaded for it. We tried our best to figure out the best solution to each problem.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first Hackathon project. Since it was our first Hackathon we didn't know what to expect and got intimidated easily, but once we got used to it we were able. to move efficiently. Also during the Hackathon we kept on running into problems with finding the right coding language and the right software because of this we kept on having to back track and had to start over. Another problem we ran into was Android Studio because none of us has ever used it before. Android Studio was a very complicated software system that we didn't understand, but since we. work. good in teams we were able to solve a lot of problems together. These are some of the challenges we ran into.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the 2 apps we were able to start and get functioning well. We are also proud of the game that Nick was able to create in such a short time, called Blocky's Adventure (Not linked to). This being all of our first Hackathon, we accomplished way more than what we thought. We put in many hours of hard work and having to push through was very tough but worth it.

What we learned

As a group we learned a lot of new things. One of the major new things we learned was how to create an android app on our laptops. We did this through Android Studios which is another program that we learned a lot from. Android Studios was a software that was completely different to us. It was complicated to learn, but as we worked through it together we learned about all the things we can do with it. We also learned how to use Unity to make a short game that has been able to help us with our topics.

What's next for Project Insomnia

We may go back and finish the app so it will be fully functional and post it in the Google Play store for people to use. We also hope to return to another Hackathon together and compete.
