Inspiration
Rojene cannot do her own makeup because of tremors in her hand due to Cerebral Palsy. She has to rely on her mom to do her makeup every day. 'How might we enable Rojene to do her makeup daily on her own without her mom's help?' is what inspired us to come up with this idea.
What it does
Rojene wanted to focus on the eye pencil because she loves eye makeup and wants to do it herself (with her hand tremor)! The Magic Spark is an eco-friendly, accessible eye pencil that is designed to work for people like Rojene.
How we built it
We have created the design and prototyped it. We plan to build a live prototype using a 3D printer.
Challenges we ran into
Our main challenge is creating a real-life prototype that we can test with our potential customers.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are really proud of the idea that touches on a real problem statement and pain point that is deeply personal. We believe the MAGIC SPARK can be a game-changer in the beauty industry.
What we learned
We learned that there are many solutions out there that are expensive and focus on "addressing" or "fixing" the issues related to a disability. We want to shift that mindset to the following -
- Shift focus from the tremor to focus on delivering a better user experience.
- The tremor is a part of her and it does not need to be controlled.
- The product should work with or without the tremor!
What's next for Project Magic Spark
We are excited to submit our idea to this hackathon and are hoping for THE BIG WIN!! We will continue to improve the design, build several versions of our prototype and test with target customers. We have enjoyed this process and will continue to invest our time in iterating and making this product better. We believe it solves an important pain point. At the very least, it will solve Rojene's pain point! And we are excited that we have our unit of one customer in Rojene!
