Inspiration
There are countless amounts of incidents in the healthcare setting where there are conflicts between nurses and doctors about what is right for the patient to take, there are also many incidents where patients aren't adequately informed about how regular household substances interact with their medications. Our program hopes to fix that.
What it does
For Healthcare workers: Shows patient information and their current medications and allows to test for drug interactions for medications planned to be given to the patient. If the patient meets certain criteria (ex. weight less than 90kg) it will adjust the dosage to account for the likeliness that the patient will absorb the medicine differently. The patients: Allows them to see their own information and medications along with how certain household goods (such as alcohol) interact with their medications.
How we built it
We built our project using streamlit and CSV files to hold our databases (and help with perplexity.ai)
Challenges we ran into
We found errors when trying to add in a Date of Birth function (later revamped to show automatically) and when creating multiple pages due to being new to the software
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to implement a patient view as many patients either don't know or have forgotten what they take and what to avoid, so keeping it in a convenient and easy-to-access website will allow for better communication between their healthcare providers.
What we learned
We learned how to use Streamlit, how to work as a team, how to decide on topics to choose from, and how to plan and manage time for creating products. We learned how to use GitHub for creating and managing repos. Alison: We didn't need leetcode, for project and I don't have that much knowledge anyway with that but I learned how to multitask between github, importing code from VS code to github, and creating concepts for possible widgets for the drug interactions webapp. Ivan: Also, what I consider important is that pick a mission and learn to code around it instead of trying to learn everything about coding and then trying to pick something. Urgency is very much important as well as sticking with the project.
What's next for Project_KAIR
To add a login feature for doctors and patients for security To use APIs like OpenFDA to allow for a more expansive database to take data from
These are the sample patients we have, just type their name when asked and you will get their info and current medication: John Doe Jane Smith Catherine Stiller Axel Stiller Trey Stiller John Doe Jane Smith Catherine Stiller Axel Stiller Trey Stiller Sarah Parker Emily White Michael Johnson Jessica Lee David Taylor Carlos Martinez Sophia Davis Benjamin Brown Mia Wilson Lucas Anderson Isabella Thomas Ethan Moore Chloe Taylor Daniel Lee Ava Smith William Johnson Olivia Garcia Noah Miller Emma Martinez Mason Lee Ella White James Davis Alexander Brown Amelia Wilson Jacob Martinez Sophia Thomas Logan White Lily Johnson Matthew Taylor Charlotte Davis Jayden Brown Lily Wilson Owen Martinez Ava Smith Ethan Lee Isabella White Mia Brown Jack Davis Sophia Johnson Noah Lee Emma Martinez Jacob White Lucas Brown Mason Davis Olivia Wilson William Martinez James White Alexander Johnson Charlotte Lee
