Inspiration
As a CS major interested in entrepreneurship, I’ve been advised to not go into hardware due to the high upfront costs and long iteration processes. However, I have always been interested in hardware, particularly medtech as it has great potential to make a real difference.
What it does
Protofy is a CAD-integrated compliance engine that flags design risks and sources certified supplies, enabling hardware companies to overcome challenges in compliance testing.
How we built it
Through extensive market research, speaking to VCs, and getting feedback, we developed the idea of Protofy, aimed at helping hardware startups.
Challenges we ran into
Originally, we faced difficulty finding a niche issue to tackle within the startup space. We were more focused on jack-of-all-trades solutions, limiting the value. However, we soon shifted our focus on a more pressing issue currently not being addressed, leading to us to tackle compliance issues in hardware.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of ideating a solution, capable of helping hardware companies with one of their largest pain points in an innovation and unique way.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the startup space and specific holes in support. This gave us a great opportunity to dive into hardware startups, a field which we weren’t very familiar with.
What's next for Protofy
We will work to build out the technology side of the product, focusing on training an LLM, working on integration with CAD, and creating an extensive database of compliance documents.
