Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project was the fact that, Accounting and Auditing is widely considered a very difficulty concept to grasp with its multitude of complicated terms and regulations in every aspect thus, we wanted to develop a platform to simplify all of these issues and allow individuals to effectively and efficiently research and learn about the various accounting and auditing concepts from tax to audit to financial reporting standards all within a single platform.
What it does
Our platform will consists of information from all relevant accounting and auditing authorities and governing bodies in Singapore. This allows individuals to efficiently access information that are relevant to them and provides guidance on how to address specific accounting and auditing related issues that may arise. Furthermore, the inclusion of a forum on our platform will allow for any follow up questions to be answered by other users of our platform thus, we are basically creating a platform for accounting and auditing knowledge to be spread and received across Singapore. The platform will be available in two forms - Android Application and Web Application.
How I built it
We initially wanted to code the entire platform with framework such as Flutter and Angular. However, due to time constraints, we feel like it is more suitable to use Wix, which will speed up the entire process and display a working prototype. We also developed a android application to make this solution more diverse. With modern and clean user interface, the consumers can expect themselves to navigate through the app seamlessly. We used Java as our main programming language, Android Studio as our compiler and also Firebase to handle the backend of the application (I.E database)
Challenges I ran into
The main challenge we ran into as a group is the fact that, there are many sources of accounting and auditing information widely available on the internet thus, we were undoubtedly unsure regarding how we could come up with a platform that could differentiate us from the rest. Our solution was discovered during a brainstorming session within our group where we realized that, if we were able to create our platform so that it would consist of multiple aspects of accounting and auditing in one area, it would effectively help differentiate our platform to those widely available.
Another challenge we faced was the fact that, our group come from a very diverse background with some from the business side of things and some from the coding side of things. This proved to be a hurdle as, what we had in mind as individuals tend to differ from one another and it took multiple meetings to come to an agreement on our project. Fortunately, our ideas were not in vain and we managed to come up with a rather innovative yet simple end result which we feel would be a game changer.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are very proud of the our end product and seemingly coming up with an idea and completing the fundamentals of it within such a short time frame. Obviously our main goal coming into this hackathon was to come in first and nothing would make us prouder than that but, what we have achieved over the course of the past week or so has been nothing short of phenomenal. Even if our group doesn't win the grand prize, we are proud of the effort and hard-work we have put in for this hackathon.
What I learned
Through our hackathon journey as a group, we managed to learn how to work better as a team and as individuals, the challenges that comes with accounting and auditing as well as with coding but most importantly, we learned that all of us have the ability to make a viable impact on the landscape of things. Through our project, we realized that by coming together and working as one we can be the one that brings forward change and improvement.
What's next for PyAIthon
The platform that we have currently created is only the tip of the iceberg for what we hope to achieve. With the limited time that we faced to come up with our platform, it is understandable that we could only get the basics done such as the interface and the forum. However, we believe that with enough time and resources invested into the project, PyAIthon could create a platform that would be a reliable and go-to source of accounting and auditing information as well as a community where like-minded individuals from students to professionals are able to come together to share and learn from one another.
