Inspiration
Just south of Paris, France, is located the forest of Fountainebleau, widely considered the best place to boulder (a type of rock climbing) in the world. July of 2018, Alejandro was in Paris for a month by himself and looking for an opportunity to experience the rock climbing to be had in Fountainebleau. Unfortunately, he did not know anyone he could go with. As a result he had to scour the web, posting on forums in an effort to find someone in the area ,at the same time as him, interested in bouldering. Eventually, he found someone, but felt that there had to be a better way to meet someone near you interested in participating in similar activities.
What it does
Pyram helps you find people around you that want to participate in the same activity as you.
How we built it
We broke our team up into front end and back end. We had one person working on database interaction, one person on getting the Google maps api working, one person working on the homepage, and one person building the flask backend. We tried to divide up in a way that focused on our individual strengths.
Challenges we ran into
- Redesigning pins to make them look neat on platform
- Overlaying controls on map
- Dynamically creating buttons
- Search autocomplete functionality
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- The platform looks cool
- We got a functional proof of concept
What we learned
- Google maps api
- Java script
- Json
What's next for Pyram
- World domination
