Inspiration
We were inspired by the concept of equalizing educational opportunities and the chance to ignite and foster the natural curiosity of children. We want children to be excited and curious about the world around them!
What it does
This mobile application prompts children with challenges each day to find an object, and then provides an educational segment regarding the topic. The app is customizable to feature children's preferences on topics.
How we built it
The mobile app is built with React Native, and utilizes the expo camera library to create a camera feature.
Challenges we ran into
We had a lack of domain knowledge on React Native, which caused time constraints on our goals, and certain features went unimplemented, such as location data to track children from the parent side of the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As mostly first time hackathon competitors , we took on an ambitious challenge and learned a lot about an unfamiliar domain. The product mission is something we're also very proud of.
What we learned
Although it wasn't used in the final product, the team also learned about MongoDB and Realm React!
What's next for QueSTEM
The parent side would be further developed with location data regarding the child for safety reasons, and the Mongo database of users for authentication and keeping track of completed 'Missions'.
