Inspiration
Our group realized that with school going back to in-person learning, it can be overwhelming for students who stepped on campus for the first time, especially after a global pandemic and the heavy workload in BCIT.
What it does
r8MyCourse recognizes that current students may find it difficult to ask alumni for advice out of the blue, or vice versa. So to improve the connection between students and alumni, r8MyCourse provide a platform for alumni to provide advice about the courses, and for the current students to learn more about the courses!
How we built it
Languages/Technologies used JS, React, Node.js, Express, MongoDB
Challenges we ran into
- MongoDB schema inconsistency
- JavaScript Async call
- Centering logo would cause overlap onto navbar in certain window ratios We managed to fix most of these issues.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Completed the planned core features for the web application. We focused on a realistic MVP that has all the features students & alumni would need to use the platform.
What we learned
We almost ran into project creep at the beginning and planned out too many features to implement in the span of 24 hours. We learned that we will need to carefully assign tasks at the start, we had an issue where members were working on the same code at once, this could be avoided by better planning.
What's next for r8MyCourse
We have come far in accomplishing the core features of the project. For the next steps, we would like to implement the report review feature, to remove inappropriate reviews
