Inspiration
When we were thinking about what problems we could help solve, the first thought that came to our minds was college. As we are high school students, college is in the forefront of our minds especially ensuring a satisfactory college experience. When we thought about our siblings, cousins, and friends, we realized that a growing problem was finding the right housing for a student after their freshman year. Countless hours are wasted by going to website after website trying to find the right place that fits all of the student's criteria. UCLA is one of the colleges where this is a huge issue as it is a public college. Many students turn down a UCLA offer just because finding the right housing is ridiculously hard. Because of this, we created an app that takes the criteria from the user and returns a list of properties that the student can tour. Now, students don't have to go to hundreds of websites to find something that our one application can provide for them in short amount of time.
What it does
Our application gives college students at UCLA an app where they can find the right housing for them.
How we built it
We used HTML and CSS for the UI and used python to program the dataset.
Challenges we ran into
We weren't able to accurately connect the UI with the backend and struggled a lot to do so.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to work under pressure and worked hard till the last minute to make our code work as best as we could.
What we learned
We learned how to work together efficiently and delegate tasks to each other to get our work done on time.
What's next for Lofty LA
We would like to edit our code to make it work and then expand it to other colleges and not just UCLA.
