Inspiration

Social media is highly addictive, and getting people to stop scrolling endlessly is a near impossible task. Instead, we aim to give the user a platform where the content is positive and authentic. RealApp highlights the behind-the-scenes side of the glitz and glamour of sites like Instagram and encourages unfiltered and uplifting content.

What it does

RealApp is similar to other social media platforms, with a few key differences. We use AI to ensure that content is always genuine and positive. Each post has a truth score, generated from user reactions, that determines how real a post is. We also have a few different types of posts:

1. Behind the scenes: Users can link to a post from other social media and talk about what actually happened behind the camera which was hidden from the viewers.

2. Goals: Users can set goals and post their progress along these goals. Instead of just seeing how in shape someone is, you can see a timeline of their progression, and what it took to get there.

3. Reals: Short-form content (like Instagram Reels), but with AI to enforce that the content is constructive/educational.

4. Truths behind the trends: Users can participate in trends going on in traditional social media, but highlight the truth/reality behind the trend.

How we built it

It is a simple web app with React and Tailwind, and Express for the backend. AI features use the Llama 3.2 model and is implemented with Groq.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest part of this project was designing the UI and user flows in a way that made sense and felt good. Some of the design aspects were unique, so we had to come up with solutions on our own.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

In the end we are proud of our stunning UI and seamless user experience.

What's next for RealApp

There were many features that we wanted to add but weren’t able to get to. We chose to add the core functionality, but there is lots of room for expansion in the future.
