Inspiration

50M people annually undergo surgery. Unfortunately 11.3% of them undergo complications. Research shows that these are attributed to pre-surgical anxiety.

What it does

Recovery allows anesthesiologists to identify which patients have signs of anxiety prior to surgery allowing them to take measures to reduce their complications. 5.6M people in the world are readmitted after surgery due to pre-surgical anxiety. Each readmission is an average of a $20k loss to the hospital.

How we built it

We built a web app using MEAN and a mobile app in React-Native. We used Nexmo's API to provide the 2FA for login and their SMS to let the anesthesiologist know that a patient has completed a form.

What's next for Recovery

What we're planning on doing is launching this app in partnership with UC Davis. Our friend Dr Wang that recommended the idea is ready to bring this product to market.
