Inspiration

We realised many of our friends have little knowledge about what can be recycled and what cannot be recycled, many of them also don't know where is the recycling bin, therefore they choose to not recycle at all.

What it does

Our app, RecycleCan helps users to identify what items can be recycled and what cannot be recycled. For example, we can only recycle batteries in the E-waste recycling bin. After the questionnaire, if the item is good to recycle, our app will show a map to direct users to the nearest recycling bin/ E-Waste recycling bin available and show the bins around the users on the map. Users will also get constant updates on the tips and hacks of recycling. The main features include identifying whether an item can be recycled, finding the nearest recycling bin near you, and tips for recycling.

How we built it

We started by brainstorming for ideas and features we want to include in our solution. Then we used Figma to sketch out a low-fi prototype of the features we want. Once we agreed on the final features we want for our app, we went to develop the high-fi prototype on Figma and begin working on the code in Flutter as soon as we lay out the main pages.

Challenges we ran into

All of our team members are new to Flutter and Dart, therefore we took a lot of time to learn the language and install the necessary software needed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to learn Flutter in a few hours and come out with a testable prototype.

What we learned

We learned how to use Figma and Flutter.

What's next for RecycleCan

We wish to complete the application and do some user testing to get feedback from potential users. The user features would be essential to ensure that our application functions and UI/UX fulfil users need and want.
