♻️ Inspiration
In a world where climate concerns are urgent and recycling can feel confusing, one question kept surfacing: “Is this plastic recyclable?” We realized millions share this doubt yet few have an easy way to find answers.
So we built *RecycLens AI * a web app that uses artificial intelligence to make recycling smarter, simpler, and more accessible to all.
By turning uncertainty into empowerment, we aim to bridge the gap between good intentions and impactful actions.

*RecycLens AI * is a socially driven web platform that helps users make environmentally responsible decisions with confidence.
It lets users:
- Upload a photo of a plastic item
- Use AI to identify the plastic type
- Get immediate feedback on recyclability
- Discover local recycling centers
- Learn practical, bite-sized recycling facts
- Track personal sustainability efforts
- Stay motivated with gamified rewards
It’s a powerful blend of climate tech, education, and behavior design built for the public good.
🛠️ How we built it
We chose tools that are both powerful and lightweight to make this solution scalable and inclusive:
- Frontend: React.js for fast, accessible interfaces
- Styling: Tailwind CSS for clean design
- Backend: Node.js + Express.js to handle server logic
- AI Model: TensorFlow.js to process plastic recognition
- Database: Firebase for data storage and authentication (Optional)
- APIs: Google Maps API for location-based services
- Data Visualization: Chart.js to make progress visual and engaging
Our goal: make sustainability feel intuitive, not intimidating.
⚠️ Challenges we ran into
Building for inclusivity and environmental impact isn’t always straightforward.
