We were inspired to create this project because of the rising problem of pollution, which we can see right at home. My neighborhood, for example, often has trash on the streets because of careless trash bag tying. This trash can runoff to oceans, forests, and many other sensitive environments. We want to raise awareness about the problem, and help others take action.

What it does

The website offers general information about pollution and (not real) contact information for other sources. The website also offers interactive material. We encoded a map of ocean pollution and also made an interacting quiz which you can past you’re results into a bard api text box which gives you advice on how you can reduce your pollution contribution.

How we built it

We mostly split it according to our special expertise and splits tasks, such as one person has been specially working on the spinning globe as they are expert in computer science graphics and graphic design, other had been working on the integration of APIs while some other works on the front end front end development and content due to their expertise in HTML and CSS and so on. However we were never strictly within our “tasks” due to constant problems and questions we heavily helped eachother out. At many points all of of us except one person drops their “task” to work on fixing the problem. We Had done this by priortizing our tasks from most important to the least priortized.

We also made many plans and sketches for how our project such as the thing below

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many problems throughout the process. We had problems with the front end of the code, especially making the UI aesthetically pleasing. Meanwhile, we also had a lot of problem with the integration of bard api into the website. Above all, time management was a major issue towards the end of the event because we were completely unaware of how quickly it would be dissolved while working on the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of how we made the MCQ portion of the website and how we were able to smoothly integrate into the How Can You Help?

We are really proud of being able to integrate BART API which worked for a while… until we ran out of requests.

What we learned

We learned many new ideas and concepts. Integrating Bard’s API was something completely new and unknown to our entire group, and while we did have difficulties implementing it, it is something that we gained a better insight into. Additionally, we learned how to use the Three.JS library to create a 3D model of the earth and map out the pollution in the ocean. While we already knew how to develop websites, this project definitely gave us yet another chance to hone our skills and especially put us on a time crunch, forcing us to use new methods and techniques to quicken our progress while maintaining our design.

What's next for Untitled

We plan on improving the bard API integration for the next project. Unlike this time, we’ll defintely spend more time planning, preparing, and learning how to effectively use APIs in general along with modules like nodeJS.
