A hassle-free platform for working people to find students and job seeker for referrals and for students to find employees in their dream company who are providing referrals.

Inspiration

  • We Students and freshers find it difficult to find employees who are giving referrals and they might not have their LinkedIn profiles optimized according to what the employee (who is giving referral) wants but might have the technical abilities required for the job. So we wanted to make it easy for such students to get referrals.
  • Also from an employee's side, he/she might get 100s of DMs and emails everyday regarding referrals and it would not be possible for him/her to check everyone's LinkedIn profile, GitHub account and other profiles.
  • Here comes ReferNow which would help students find referrals for the job openings and helps employees easily filter out the students according to their technical achievements and knowledge and provide referrals to the best candidate and increase the chance of conversion (interview)

What it does

Refer Now simply takes your i.e. students' information and skills and based on that shows the referrals they have a chance to get thus eliminating the need of basic filtering. For the employees, they can post a referral they can give and wil receive requests with the relevant skills. The candidates' necessary profile links like github and linked in are provided for their interest and convenience. They can reject it or refer them through the mail

How we built it

We present the prototype in the form of a web app.

Challenges we ran into

The database connectivity and simultaneous filter was the trickiest part as there were many edge cases to be considered and our expertise in backend is just at beginner level. Adding to it, there was a disruption in one of our system due to which we suffered time loss.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We started from scratch having a rough idea but as we proceeded we realised there are too many nitty gritty details to be handled. But, we combined those use cases smartly and efficiently to build a feasible prototype.

What we learned

We improved our backend skills at an intermediate level and also fixing bugs and thinking of edge test cases was a brainstorming experience.

What's next for ReferNow

  • As the database builds, we plan to plugin a recommender system that will enhance the results for both the seeker and the referees.
  • We also plan to include more specific skills such as major projects or their codechef ratings etc.
  • A major step will be to upgrade it to a mobile platform for the best reach
