Inspiration
We received the challenge provided by RemoteBase for the hack fest 2021 to create an application that helps the loneliness of remote workers. Being remote workers ourselves, we can relate to the seriousness of the issue. So, we wanted to come up with a solution that can tackle this problem. Then we realized that it can actually do much more such as allow people to share recommendations, connect with mentors, find new opportunities, etc
What it does
We created a portal that allows the users to create and find different activities(games, streaming, chatting, ...) around them or online which are shared by the other community members. Also, users can share the recommendation on movies, books, articles and much more. It also shows you the details of community members that have registered in the portal so that you can connect with them.
How we built it
First, we designed the user flow through invision. Then we created an ER diagram for it. We then divided the application into 2 parts, Front-end, and back-end and then we started developing and integrating both of them together.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we ran into was identifying and limiting the scope of the application. Our team envisioned an application that can do more than just eliminate the loneliness of the remote workers. We saw an opportunity to create an all-in-one portal that can help the remote workers in improving their social life as well as their careers through our portal. However, it was impossible to complete the whole application in such a short duration so we had to pick and choose which features we wanted to include in the application for the purpose of hackfest.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Since our team was built with the members of our current organization, so teamwork and team chemistry were great, to begin with. However, successfully dividing the tasks, working in parallel and collaboration was on point. Every team member gave their all and we managed to build not just a prototype but a complete working application along with sign-in and signup features within less than 48 hours.
What we learned
How to build a complete application from scratch and identifying opportunities and the needs of the community to come up with the idea of the application and taking it towards completion
What's next for Remote Activity Planner
Like I mentioned earlier, we envisioned this application to be much more than eliminating the loneliness of the remote workers. We want it to be the go-to application for all the remote workers and professionals throughout the world. We believe it has the potential to change the dynamic of the world by connecting the people together
