Inspiration

We have taken inspiration from the theme of this hackathon. We felt a need for a site that brings to us all the highlights of the 1970s to the 1990s in the field of movies, music and some amazing innovations.

What it does

The website brings to us all the highlights of the 1970s to the 1990s in the field of movies, music and some amazing innovations.

How we built it

HTML CSS and javascript, Amazon Web Services and python.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating the chatbot with the website was challenging. Being beginners in CSS and javascript it took a significant amount of time to come up with an aesthetic looking website. Scraping websites to obtain necessary data using python was difficult and could only be done from few websites like IMDb.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Acquired basic knowledge about CSS and JS. Have a functioning website that provides all basic information. Combining all of our expertise and learning how to work together to generate a fun idea.

What we learned

Learnt basics of CSS and JS. Learnt how to use AWS to build a chatbot. Learnt how to scrape data from websites using python beautiful soup library Learnt how to host pages via GitHub Learnt about devpost and how hackathons work in general

What's next for Retropedia

We plan to integrate the chatbot with the website and also create a chat room functionality where users could communicate their ideas and thoughts about movies/music/ideas that were present in the period from the 1970s to the 1990s
