Inspiration
Plastic is often chosen as a preferred material for designing products due to its versatility, low cost, and lightweight nature. Its durability and wide range of applications have contributed to its popularity despite its associated environmental challenges. But plastic is really bad for the environment, taking up to 1,000 years to fully degrade, persisting in the environment and posing ongoing threats to ecosystems and wildlife. In addition, around 91% of plastic waste produced globally has not been recycled, and much of it ends up in landfills, contributing to long-term environmental degradation (National Geographic). Unsustainable choices of material is a big problem that we knew we wanted to tackle for this project.
What it does
A creative platform that enables users to design their products while being aware of the environmental impact of the materials they choose to use, offering more sustainable alternative materials.
How we built it
Our webiste was made from scratch using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. We used a scale from one to ten that ranks the materials based on the impact it has on the environment, 1 being the least harmful and 10 being the most harmful to the environment to calcualte the environmental impact. We used JavaScript to code the toolbar and design page functionalities.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is our first project making a creative platform and we are very proud of the way it turned out!
What we learned
We learned a lot more about design when designing the website as well as creating a sandbox creative platform (which we have never done before).
What's next for Revivo
We hope to add more features to Revivo’s website to further educate people about the affects and importance of sustainable design and choice of material such as a news and blog page featuring environmental sustainability content.
