Inspiration
We had a bunch of servos and wanted to do something cool.
What it does
It picks up things, and also dances
How we built it
We wrote a front end in django, and a back end that travels through a raspi to an arduino to the servos. We 3d printed the chassis, but the prototypes were cardboard and structural resistors.
Challenges we ran into
The print was scheduled to finish at about 4 AM, and building things in the morning after sleep is never very reliable. So we basically didn't sleep.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Given the above, our build quality is actually fairly impressive. Plus it can pick things up with an automated script, and it's got a really nice front end.
What we learned
Servos that are shaking are going to get hot. Arduino SPI needs a bit of a delay to get it working properly. 3d printers shouldn't be set to high resolution unless you are really sure you want it.
What's next for Robot Arm
Learn to pick up pens
