Inspiration
We wanted to create a solution to ease the anxiety many people feel when communicating with their roommates. Our goal was to make it easier to address common issues and simplify scheduling for people sharing a living space, fostering better communication and harmony.
What it does
Roominate is a roommate management app that streamlines shared living arrangements. It features anonymous alerts for sensitive communication, a shared scheduling system to coordinate tasks and events, personalized roommate profiles, and tools for tracking and managing shared expenses.
How we built it
We started by designing an intuitive and user-friendly prototype using Figma to visualize the app's layout and features. Then, we developed the app using Swift, leveraging its tools to bring our concept to life with functionality and style.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was learning how to use Swift and XCode as our developers were new to iOS app development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re incredibly proud of the polished prototype we created in Figma, as it perfectly captures our vision for the app. Additionally, we made significant progress in coding the app, overcoming initial hurdles and setting a strong foundation for future development.
What we learned
This project taught us a lot about coding and app design, as well as the complexities of creating a seamless user experience. We also gained valuable insights into how common it is for roommates to avoid discussing issues, highlighting the importance of tools like Roominate.
What's next for Roominate
We plan to expand Roominate with more advanced features to further reduce conflicts and improve communication. Future updates may include tools for chore tracking, bill splitting automation, and more interactive ways to foster collaboration between roommates.
