Inspiration
Roomfinder Sucks!!! It cannot Navigate Users, It cannot Localize Users, It Does Not Help The Life of People with Disabilities
What it does
RoomR Navigates Users Inside and Outside of a Building. It provides the fastest root the destination and Localize the user Inside and outside of the building.
How I built it
We build it with a lot of manual labor, since most of the data we need were not available. We use Google as a tile server. We use OSM for extracting some basic information. We used JOSM for creating the maps. We used AndroidSDK for creating the APP. We used a fusion of Dead Reckoning and Particle filter for Localization. We implemented our Dijkstra for routing and we Open Sourced it.
Challenges I ran into
A lot of existing information was not accessible (Like FloorPlans). There was a lack of Methods for Routing.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The first Dijkstra Plugin for Indoor Routing (We have OpenSourced it!!!). The First Infrastructure Indepentent Indoor Localization. An Indoor Map of TUM now Openly Available.
What I learned
We learned how to use open information and how to contribute in the open comunity. We learned how to deal with uncertain information.
What's next for RoomR
Our next steps are: (1) evaluate our algorithm, (2) calidate our hypothesis (that such algorithm is necessary), (3) implement our approach to every public infrastructure of Munich and (4) provide our service Open to the community.
