Inspiration
We were inspired by Tamagotchi; Tamagotchi-enthusiasts love to pay consistent attention to their cute critter friends, and we wanted to find a way to utilize that concept, while also helping people get off sites like Tiktok, or at the bare minimum, reduce screen time substantially.
What it does
We have created an application that allows you to create your own pet plant (a RootBud!) and watch it grow as you grow your time-management skills. You have the ability to track your focus time, take care of your own RootBud, give it a name, and watch it grow as you get more work done, track the days you are the most productive, help the world become a better place, as we our committed to planting a tree, anytime a user's plant reaches 400 XP
How we built it
We built this application using Flutter, Android SDK, Git, Github, Github Codespaces, and VS Code.
Challenges we ran into
At first, we wanted to create this application using a React framework, but we ran into complications when it came to the setup, so we switched to using Flutter. We also initially wanted to create an application that can detect what applications you are using on your phone, and calculate your hours of productivity based on that, but for privacy reasons, IOS and Androids do not allow third-party apps to acquire that data.

Plant buddy Our moving plant pet truly stole the show! Michael created this from scratch Our resilience For many of our group members, this was our first time creating a fully-fledged hackathon project.
What we learned
We learned about utilizing Github repositories, Git, Github, and the usefulness of UX/UI design, and collaborative effort.
What's next for RootBud
We are hoping to expand our application by adding features such as:
- Customizing/Decorating the RootBud
- Rewards for leveling up your RootBud -A way to feed your RootBud through other ways of productivity
