Inspiration

When I was a freshman, I'd wouldn't have much time, so it'd really bother me every time I rushed to the dining hall just for the lines to be huge, or for the food to be awful. In addition, I didn't know what the best non-dining hall student spots are on campus.

What it does

The web app tells you how busy each food destination is. In addition, it automatically scrapes the dining hall menus and shows you which entrees they're serving. It also only has the most popular restaurants, so that incoming students know whats good, and what is worth skipping.

How we built it

We split the work for the front and back end, and then integrated them at the end. For the front end, we used react. For the back end, we used GO, and Supabase to store information needed.

Challenges we ran into

The integration was really difficult, as we ran into an error that ended up being associated with the Wifi we we're connected to, and that took a very long time to figure out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of getting everything to work in the end, because there were some times where it felt almost impossible.

What we learned

We learned to start integration at the beginning, and not wait to consolidate at the end. Also, we learned we need to work a bit more together, as we think we split off a bit too much.

What's next for RUEats

Adding the actual busyness algorithm, as well as adding more local food spots.
