Inspiration
Our inspiration for making this app was that we wanted to have a real impact on problems that Houston face, as well as use some interesting algorithms or tech to accomplish this. We saw movies like minority report and video games like watchdogs, and thought we could try and predict crime around Houston.
What it does
The app uses a neural network to predict the probability of crimes happening at different locations throughout the day.
How we built it
We made the app using Android Studio, and made the NN with java.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges with collecting and priming data for the NN, and android xml.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of getting the Neural Net working, and learning how to style google maps.
What we learned
We learned alot about front-end android design, as well as priming data for NN's.
What's next for safeHOU
We want to make an iOS app and possibly expand out of Houston. We also want to work with the police to improve the data available to us.
