Inspiration

Campus safety is an important concern for all college students; while there are safety measures such as campus police, help apps, etc., many students are still worried about their safety, especially when they experience or witness an incident. These incidents can have a significant impact on students' physical and mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being. This inspired us to create Safeversity, an all-in-one platform where students can report incidents occurring at their campus, learn about other incidents and receive support. Our goal was to help create a safe and supportive campus environment where students can thrive.

What it does

Safeversity is a platform designed to support students who have experienced or witnessed incidents on college campuses. We recognize that incidents such as sexual harassment, discrimination, bullying, or violence can have a significant impact on students' well-being and safety. Therefore, we offer a safe and confidential reporting system that allows students to report incidents and access support services.

How we built it

  • Frontend: HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Static JS, sass, scss, w3
  • Backend: React JS, Firebase, Node

Challenges we ran into

  • We had to brainstorm and come up with a feasible idea that was innovative and could be implemented within the given time frame.
  • Some of our teammates did not have much experience using building a website and they had to learn more about it especially when it came to fixing issues.
  • Implementation of certain technologies was a bit difficult as were using them for the first time.
  • Some things such as backend development did not go as planned so we had to improvise

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Helping each other out and working together as a team
  • Completing the project in the given time frame despite schedule conflicts
  • Using the minimalistic design, which makes the website easy to use
