Inspiration

Need of paper less payment system that can be used easily for both pilgrims and Saudi businesses. To align the payments and finance sector of Saudi Arabia with the Vision 2030 there was a need to develop a full fledged base system to support all the e-payments / mobile-payments solutions that can be implemented around the kingdom. With the growth of IT around the world and the numbers of mobile users the need to make a payment system that can enable people to easily pay with just a tap on their phone screen and manage their finances easily. Which in return also enable the government to keep track of the buying patterns of the pilgrims or normal people.

What it does

Sahl Pay is a simple app that does instant payments from pilgrim to pilgrim and pilgrim to merchants. The app provides them with a wallet to hold their money in e-form. Which they will be able to transfer to other people, purchase services, buy tickets for buses, pay for taxi rides, etc. with simple QR scan method as well as a pay through unique one time code method. The merchants or service providers will be able to provide services or sell products to pilgrims and receive payments against them through the app. On successful transaction money goes to their wallet. Example users of Sahl Pay app can be food restaurants, taxi cabs, bus stations, wheel chair helpers, etc. Sahl Pay comes with a web system for the Hajj authority and other related government authorities to manage everything. They can oversee, the stats with an extensive reporting dashboard. The system will allow the authorities to register new pilgrims with pre-given balance to use. The authorities will be able to know how much money has been credited and how much is used during Hajj. How many products, services, etc. have been sold.

How we built it

We used Mongoose for database with nodejs and express on the api layer. Mobile app is being developed with ionic hybrid framework so that we can have both android and ios application for our pilgrims and the merchants. The reporting dashboard for the Hajj authority is built with VueJS on top of a free available admin theme from creative tim to provide fast and efficient system.

Challenges we ran into

What will be the cost of transaction? Why the vendors will opt in to use our application? Why the users will opt in to use our application? Creating a simple to use mobile application interface to manage all user groups.

Easing the lives of Pilgrims and Govt authorities by creating a very simple and easy to use application for paper less currency payments.

What's next for Sahl Pay

Implementing ways to get the app to be actually used by pilgrims, merchants and hajj authority.
