SAMSAN TECH Data Analytics

Inspiration

As computer science majors, we thought that organizing data and formulating a solution might be a problem that we may run into in the future, so we thought that we should learn how to work with data to be more experienced for future situations similar to this.

What it does

Our strategy was to use excel PivotTables, and by using this method, we were able to organize thousands of rows and columns of data in order to come up with a solution for the most common accidents and injuries.

How we built it

We built our project completely in Excel, learning new skills like how to create PivotTables and also how to organize data so that Excel will be able to compute different tables and graphs. Through these graphs we can organize our data and create visuals for others to understand as well. Therefore, the implementation of Excel is what helped us build this project and help use organize the datasets and explain it to others

Challenges we ran into

At first, we were excited and dedicated to learning pandas, a python data library, but we soon realized that as inexperienced students, we were unable to learn python language in a short period of time, so we resorted to excel which wasn't as efficient but it got the minimum and main problem solved.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This hackathon is a first for all of us and we went in blind so we didn't have many breakthroughs. Some of the things we are proud of are learning how to use the tools provided by Microsoft excel to aid us in sorting through large amounts of data and creating a table to display the information we are looking for. We are also proud of what we were able to come up with because the instructions weren't super specific on what programs we had to use or what format to present it in, allowing us to explore and expand on our creativity.

What we learned

We learned how to use PivotTables in Excel, and on top of that we learned how to organize large amounts of data into one concise table allowing us to create graphs and tables that helped us organize the data sets. Other than software, we as a team learned how to cooperate better and communicate with one another to achieve the work that needed to be done efficiently, in what we felt was a short amount of time.

What's next for SAMSAN TECH Data Analytics

We are going to learn more about coding and the different types of languages there are. Not only that but we want to polish up what we are know and are want to compete in other competitions
