Inspiration
Our inspiration is to make a real change in the world in a future where pollution is reduced, making engineering part of you.
What it does
The initial idea is to combine these two systems. SAMIBOT's function would be to collect waste at specific points in the lunar domes/habitats. It would be stored inside the system, and then go directly to a trailer where all the materials would be stored.
Then it would become the SARA module, a system for collecting and separating inorganic waste. It uses sensors to determine various parameters and communicate them via a web page showing the material and how each one could be recycled.
How we built it
The initial idea is to combine these two systems. SAMIBOT's function would be to collect waste at specific points in the lunar domes/habitats, storing it inside. It would then go directly to a trailer where all the materials would be stored. It would then reach the SARA module, where it would pass through various filters: a filter like the one used for airport suitcases, which would prevent waste from being stacked; then, if the waste is being stacked in double rows, an ultrasonic sensor would detect if there is an object stacked in double rows, and if so, it would push it with a bar that would move along the X and Z axes to align them; and finally, it would pass through a hopper-shaped area. As a measure to prevent the system from failing due to speed and system error, an ultrasonic sensor and a bar that moves on the X,Y axis would be added. Through a condition that if the sensors are analyzing an object and the ultrasonic sensor detects an object, the bar will be down without letting the object pass and stopping the mobility of the main belt. In case the ultrasonic sensor has an object and the sensors are not analyzing anything, the object will be allowed to pass by raising the bar and moving the conveyor belt.
Challenges we ran into
PROBLEM: This robot is designed to operate on Earth, using satellites to transmit information and storing it on servers. Could the same Earth satellites be used for the Moon? Or how does our website communicate with the robot? What if we remove some things so it works with just sensors and is simpler? SOLUTION: Relay antennas will be added that will reach a certain range, establishing the maximum area that SAMIBOT can reach.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developing a complex system consisting of two robots, including a web page and a camera that transmits all the time what is seen in the robots and without the need to occupy satellites
What we learned
In this project, we're learning how to develop a system that recycles trash and what uses we can give to that waste. Adding to the complexity of the parameters of an environment like the Moon
What's next for SAROBET
It is hoped that in the future there will be more SAMIBOT garbage collectors, working alongside SARA and creating a less polluting civilization on various planets to explore.
