Inspiration

We were inspired by the overwhelming challenge students face, especially in developing countries, when trying to discover and apply for educational opportunities. Traditional opportunity boards are static, require manual searching, and a lot of them don't even provide personalized recommendations! Students often miss deadlines or struggle with the application process. We wanted to create an AI-powered solution that proactively discovers opportunities and helps students succeed, no matter where they are from. Our ultimate mission is to give the equal opportunity for everybody so that we can get as many bright minds working on building the future.

What it does

ScholarMatch is a AI & agentic opportunity aggregator that automatically scrapes and curates scholarships, internships, summer camps, and competitions. The platform features:

  • Smart Discovery: AI-powered scraping of multiple sources for real-time opportunity updates ( TO BE IMPLEMENTED, using perplexity-sonar api for it)
  • Personalized Matching: Intelligent recommendations based on student profile, preferences, and career trajectory
  • AI Task Agents: Automated application drafting and assistance to streamline the process (TO BE IMPLEMENTED, using openai gpt-4o model)
  • Trajectory Planning: Guided career path selection (FAANG/Startup, Consulting, Research, Other)
  • Resource Management: Curated learning resources from platforms like Reddit, Hacker News, and Medium
  • Real-time Notifications: Email alerts for new matching opportunities (TO BE IMPLEMENTED)

How we built it

We built ScholarMatch UI with React 18 and TypeScript for a robust frontend foundation. The platform currently uses mock data for demonstration purposes, but the architecture is designed to seamlessly integrate with future backend services and AI implementations.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we faced was the time constraint - we had ambitious goals for implementing AI agents, web scrapers, and a full backend system, but we simply didn't have enough time to bring all these features to life. While we successfully completed the entire frontend UI/UX, we had to make difficult decisions about what to prioritize. We wanted to build a comprehensive AI-powered platform, but the reality of development timelines meant we had to focus on creating a solid foundation that could demonstrate our vision while being achievable within our timeframe.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're incredibly proud of completing our entire frontend UI/UX implementation, which showcases a production-ready application with modern design principles and smooth user interactions.

Beyond the technical achievements, we're most proud of our vision to serve underprivileged students who often miss life-changing opportunities due to lack of access or information. Our platform's architecture is designed to democratize access to scholarships, internships, and educational resources. We've built a scalable component system that's ready for backend integration and AI implementation, ensuring we can deliver on our promise to help students discover opportunities that could transform their futures.
