When someone asks us about the ocean, we think about beautiful marine life: corals, algae, colorful fish, but definitely not what we see here - Ocean Pollution. Plastic, aluminum, and other materials used in producing everyday consumer goods require hundreds of years to biodegrade in usual conditions, but this time becomes literally thousands of years in water, as for example, plastic never fully goes away, it just breaks into small pieces of microplastic. The United Nations Environment Programme estimated in two thousand six that every square mile of ocean contains forty-six thousand pieces of floating plastic. Plastic debris causes the deaths of more than a million seabirds every year, as well as more than one hundred thousand marine mammals. Even though there are many environmental organizations working on this problem and offering the world their solutions on how to clean up the ocean, those numbers only grow every year.
Why? Because people consume more and more goods from non-recyclable or slowly-degrading materials, and they accumulate in the environment with years. However, there is a solution - the younger generation. Let us present to you with our mobile game called Sea Dive - it will educate kids and teenagers in questions of marine pollution, so we can raise a more environmentally responsible society that will transmit eco-consciousness to the future.
Here is how the game looks: after we start the game, the diver jumps after tap while falling on the garbage pieces in the ocean. However, his abilities depend on the tool he uses, so the basic scoop net in the game cannot collect bottles. To solve this, the user can by improvements in the shop - he pays the collected coins and takes a quiz about the related topic to buy an ability to collect bottles. Then it is possible to check the leaderboard, which incentifies the user to play to get higher in the rank with his record. The settings page contains authorization and options to customize the interface.
Future plans: Database for Leaderboard Authorization system Creation of better UI/UX design Game process development Full-fledged cross-platform implementation
What we have learned? Making an app, especially a game with minimal coding skills is extremely difficult: we tried to implement technologies like Firebase and API with the interface we created, but we didn't have enough coding skills to do this, so there is a space to learn now and prepare for the next hackathon.
