💡 What Inspired Us
Our inspiration came from a simple but familiar sight: Overflowing vanities, half-used skincare bottles, and the quiet guilt of overbuying. We realized that beauty and skincare overconsumption isn’t caused by ignorance, but by confusion, emotion, and social influence. As beauty lovers ourselves, we wanted to create something that helps people pause before they purchase and reconnect self-care with sustainability.
📚 What We Learned
Through user surveys, interviews, and Manus AI-assisted data analysis, we discovered that people want to be responsible consumers, but they just don’t know how. Many donate unused products, but even more throw them away. They rely on trends and influencers more than research. We learned that true sustainability in beauty isn’t just about awareness — it’s about access, guidance, and emotional connection.
🛠️ How We Built It
We designed SecondSkin as an AI-powered beauty and skincare platform that helps users buy less, choose better, and understand their impact. Using Figma, we created an intuitive user experience centered on four core features: AI Routine Check, Sustainability Insights, Personalized Alternatives, and an Impact Tracker. Our process involved collaborative brainstorming, iterative prototyping, and feedback testing to make every interaction feel personal and empowering.
⚙️ Challenges We Faced
Our biggest challenge was balancing empathy and data — making sustainability feel human, not technical. We struggled with how to visualize impact without overwhelming users, and how to make reflection feel rewarding instead of restrictive. Finding the right tone — calm, encouraging, and transparent — took multiple iterations. But through those challenges, we learned that thoughtful design can turn awareness into action.
