Inspiration

I wanted to do a simple hack using the Myo and Android-Studio regarding security and public safety.

What it does

Secure Walk allows the user to connect a Myo to their Android phone, enter a phone number, and have their phone call that number when the user double-taps their fingers together. By not needing to pull their phone out of their pocket to make a call, the user can signal for help discretely without alerting their potential attackers.

Here's an example of when this app would be useful: Say you're walking home alone at night, and notice someone following you. With just a tap of your fingers you can call for help from your parents, a friend, or even 911. Pulling out your expensive phone would make you more likely to be robbed, so Secure Walk is the only way to call for help without your potential attackers knowing it.

How I built it

I used Android Studio in conjunction with the Myo SDK to build Secure Walk.

Challenges I ran into

I haven't wrote a fully functioning app alone before, so learning some of the basics of app development was a challenge. I've also never used the Myo before, so that was a learning experience as well.

What I learned

I learned how to use the Myo and how to write basic Android apps, which was my main goal in creating this app.
