inspiration
a day made of glass 2 (2012) was the inspiration for building this web app. in it, one of the main characters is on a school field trip to what seems to be a national park. there are massive walls of interactive glass to learn about dinosaurs who thrived several thousand years ago in the exact location she is at. as a child, when i watched the vision of corning glass, i remember wishing it become a reality in that instance. that thought has stuck with me over the years.
what it does
seekh is a simplified web app intended to be viewed by children that showcases a timeline of dinosaurs spanning from the triassic to the cretaceous period. users can scroll horizontally to see a chronological timeline of dinosaurs.
how i built it
nextjs, tailwindcss, framer motion, minimax ai and cursor ide https://dinosaurpictures.org/ database
challenges i ran into
styling took a while since the images were not able to expand to take up the entire div - i ran out of time before i could complete the styling
accomplishments that i'm proud of
parsing the dino db to retrieve names, pictures and summary of each dinosaur and displaying them in a chronological timeline
what i learned
this being my first solo hackathon since the rise of ai agents, the most important skill i learned was prompt engineering
what's next for seekh
there are several future plans to flush out seekh
- store and display the complete list of 1300+ dinosaurs that have been excavated and categorized
- make it such that hovering over the dinosaurs would generate an ai summary based on the user's age
- using more framer motion animations
- flushing out the ui to be cleaner
