Inspiration
We were inspired by the turrets in Call of Duty. With the many home invasions happening in America, we wanted to develop a way to drop these rates significantly.
What it does
The turret sweeps in a 180-degree motion, trying to detect anything in its way. Once it detects something, it fires a rubber band at it, harming whatever is its field of view.
How we built it
We used one servo motor in order to map out 180 degrees on a radar, another motor to aim the arm at the target, and the last arm to release the rubber band's tension.
Challenges we ran into
We were not getting sufficient power delivery to the motors, so we connected the motors in parallel to keep the voltage equivalent. We also used 2 power sources to get 12v instead of 5, allowing for all motors to run at optimal speed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to make a cad design to house 3 servos and fire a rubber band. This design worked in our first attempt at printing.
What we learned
What's next for SentryHS
We hope to gain a more advanced, harmless, home defense security turret to defend off home invaders.
