Inspiration
We were inspired to create this app after discovering about the lack of accessibility to Mental Health Care in the U.S, and the difficulties to find free, reputable sources concerning the issue of eating disorders.
What it does
Serenity is a user-friendly app that connects the user to customizable resources regarding eating disorders in a sequential manner. For example, if the user is unsure whether or not they have an eating disorder, Serenity prompts them to a survey, which helps them determine this, as well as its potential severity. Then, the app would recommend a variety of reputable sources to aid the user accordingly (i.e the user can choose to learn more about the different types of eating disorders, choose to set goals on their road to recovery, etc.).
How we built it
We built Serenity using CSS, javaScript and HTML. We used HTML to create the basic structure of the site. Then, we modified the formatting, layout, style, and presentation of the site using CSS. Finally, we used JavaScript to control the behavior of the different elements of our code by creating variables, conditional statements, functions, etc.
Challenges we ran into
It was very challenging for us to figure out how to make the graphics functional and presentable since we had very limited experience with CSS and website development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to create a functioning website with presentable graphics. We are also proud that we were able to effectively implement CSS and HTML into our code.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to develop a website from scratch. We also learned about a lot of functions that we had previously not used and about CSS and its usage.
What's next for Serenity App
In the future, we hope to create more functions for Serenity App, such as being able to connect the user to medical professionals like therapists, dieticians, etc. Furthermore, we hope to make Serenity App more customizable and develop our own surveys and unique resources.
