Inspiration
Create a greener environment by reusing the water from your shower. Inspired on showerloop.org but make it girlfriend/wife-friendly.
What it does
On starting your shower, the drain valve will close so that the water can be pumped to the cold water input of the thermostatic shower facet. Off course, the water is filtered by means of a mesh filter, a carbon activated filter and a UVC-lamp to kill viruses and bacterias. At the end of the shower, the drain valve opens and water runs away to the drain.
Advantages:
- reuse water
- reuse heat (the shower in a household consumes about 30% of the energy)
- take a really long shower without feeling guilty
Off course, it will have an internet connection so that mqtt messages can be send to a home automation platform of your choice (home-assistant.io, openhab)
How I will built it
1) a water flow sensor measures the water usage of the hot water supply which flows when you open the thermostatic faucet 2) if the water flow sensor sees water consumption, the controller will close the drain valve, start the water pump and the UVC lamp 3) while running, measure water reuse and temperature reuse 4) when you close the thermostatic faucet, the controller will stop the water pump and UVC lamp and open the drain valve
Challenges I ran into
Waiting for all the parts to arrive from aliexpress.com
