Inspiration
The concept of Shrub Hub is based on food delivery/ pick-up services, but with a goal to combat food insecurity by making it more accessible for everyone.
What it does
Become a Shrub Bud to help combat food insecurity in three ways: 1) Receive assistance from helpers depending on where you live 2) Help out the community by donating or delivering food 3) Endorsing Shrub Buds so they can continue to provide for their community
After signing up/ logging in, you can access a map where you can select where you live. Then, you can choose from a list of Shrub Buds to connect with. To connect with them, you can message them, send a friend request, view their profile, or endorse them.
How we built it
The design for the website is created on Figma and the background asset is created on Medibang.
Challenges we ran into
Due to time constraints, there is no back-end for Shrub Hub. Another challenge we faced were sizing frames and creating the aesthetic for the website. If we had more time, we would probably create a back-end so that features like the sign-up/login or messaging system works properly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We weren't sure where to begin with at the start of this event, but it was fun learning how to use Figma and learning about UI/UX design.
What we learned
This project made us think about how to structure a website so that it is most efficient and understandable for the user. Figma looked overwhelming at first, but we then figured out how to transform objects and prototype them.
What's next for Shrub Hub
With Shrub Hub, there are so many possibilities for improving the user experience. That includes: improving the look and structure of the website, creating a back-end so that interactions can work, expanding the map options for the user (draggable and clickable map), having a database to store user data, and making the application available for other platforms besides desktop browser.
