Inspiration

We see a lot of forms getting printed and also a lot of forms thrown into the trash every day. It is nothing but a heavy wastage of wood, paper and the efforts taken in filling the form. In many cases, the application does not even reach the concerned person due to the flows in the levels in hierarchy and the sender of the application is also not informed about the status. This served as the main inspiration for us to build this application SigNation.

What it does

In simple words, SigNation simplifies the hierarchy in different organizations. It's a known fact that organizations with "EARS TO THE GROUND" approach are the most successful organizations but it does not happen in practical cases as the employees in the lower levels of the hierarchy can almost never get their queries reached to the higher officials due to multiple flows and many formalities. Our application simplifies the process and improves the communication flow in the organizations. By using our website (SigNation), people can now create applications paperless, check their application status and also get their applications reviewed in time.

How we built it

We built this website using ReactJS, NodeJS, ExpressJS, FireBase, HelloSign SDK, DropBox API.

Challenges we ran into

Using RealTime data instead of hard-coded values was a very big challenge that we faced while coding. Another major challenge that we faced was that in React, the components were getting rendered even before the Data was fetched from the APIs. We had a hard time figuring out how to solve this issue and we are proud to say that we were finally successful in doing so. We also felt converting the file which was in binary format into user-viewable preview, challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we completed the project with most of the planned functionalities within the given time period. We are also proud that we learnt about dropbox API and about HelloSign SDK which were unknown to us before this hackathon.

What we learned

We learnt about many different components in React, connecting React with Back-end and sending API calls by using axios. We also learnt about the various functions in dropbox API and the HelloSign SDK.

What's next for SigNation

The following features are planned next for SigNation:

  • Mobile responsiveness
  • Integration with many organizations with even more complex hierarchies
  • converted to a Progressive Web Application
  • A notification system to notify a user when he/she receives an application form to be signed.
