SimpleWIC
What it does
SimpleWIC allows a user to scan a barcode and immediately know whether or not their WIC benefits cover the product. The app features an abundance of audible and visual cues, as well as multi-lingual support and full translations across the board. If an item is scanned that isn't covered, the app will attempt to recommend a similar product that is covered.
How it's Build
SimpleWIC is built with React Native as a front end ensuring cross compatibility across mobile operating systems. It features a dynamic SQL database with a python webserver as a backend, ensuring that SimpeWIC can be scaled in the future.
What's next for SimpleWIC
The goal of SimpleWIC is to builds dignity and trust in the WIC program, and increased confidence and independence for WIC families, hopefully reducing confusion and wasted benefits. While this demo is intended to serve the Haitian-Creole community, SimpleWIC can easily expand beyond York to other communities.
