Inspiration
The inspiration for this project was the investing game BuildYourStaxx. Alternatively, we wanted to build a game focusing on paying off debt.
What it does
Sink is a simulator for debt repayment. It focuses on the fundamental concepts and mechanisms in relation to debt repayment such as refinancing and the impact of credit scores.
How we built it
This web game was developed with vanilla Javascript, CSS and HTML.
Challenges we ran into
In building this project, complexity was the biggest hurdle we faced. The scope of debt repayment is vast, with many mechanisms, and facets to cover. Conversely, in order to make our game intuitive, we decided to stick to the barebones to emphasize fundamental concepts.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are most proud of the realism of this game. While not a one to one mirror fo the real world, Sink offers realism in its simulation in debt accumulation, credit score development and asset performance.
What we learned
In building this project, the potential of benefits of using frameworks became evident. While our barebones approach gave us the control we desired, it ultimately made the development process tedious. However, with frameworks such as react, we believe we can save a notable amount of time with our next project.
What's next for Sink
In future, we'd like to stylize Sink. The original goal with Sink was to compare debt repayment to keeping a ship afloat. Just like how there are more urgent issues to address in keeping a boat a float, debt is a similar stresser. Consequently, in future, we'd like to better establish that connection.
