Inspiration
As students who live in the Central Valley, we created this website to provide farmers in San Joaquin and Stanislaus County with practical information and tools to improve their irrigation scheduling practices. With droughts and water scarcity becoming increasingly prevalent in our region, we recognize the importance of promoting sustainable water management practices in agriculture.
By optimizing irrigation schedules and reducing water wastage, farmers can increase crop yields and conserve precious water resources, ultimately supporting the long-term sustainability of the agriculture industry in our region.
What it does
As students who want to share more information about irrigation scheduling, we wanted to develop an information website that updates and informs those interested in sustainable agriculture about why irrigation scheduling is resourceful and efficient technology for water conservation.
How we built it
Frontend: We used Figma for the rough draft of the website template, VSCode to edit the HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery. Backend: We used Python, and Flask.
Challenges we ran into
Routing the .html template files to main.py. Making sure that the login/sign-up page worked correctly. Finding out why the background images didn't cover up the entire page/block or why text wouldn't appear.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As a mix of front-end and back-end programmers, we were able to make our files work and connect to each other.
What we learned
How to create a login/sign-up page, how to route py to html, learning how to design a web page.
What's next for Smart AgriTech
Having a more intuitive and interactive scheduler such as calculating the NVDI for irrigation scheduling and making the website mobile-friendly.
