Inspiration

As students, we view our teachers as a source of inspiration. We understand that it's thanks to them that we continue to improve every day. That’s why we wanted to step into their shoes and develop a system that enhances their efficiency.

The idea came to life when one of our team members shared that their father, a dedicated teacher, expressed how tedious and overwhelming the task of entering student grades can be—often requiring more work than any one teacher can handle. Our goal is to lighten this burden and support educators in their vital role, enabling them to focus on what they do best: inspiring and teaching.

What it does

Our system automates the task of grading exams. It first sets up the environment to accommodate the class and its students. Then, using an advanced camera, it captures an image that is ** processed by a pre-trained artificial intelligence** to extract both student data and the answers provided. Finally, the system analyzes the information to generate accurate grading results.

How we built it

We worked collaboratively and equitably by dividing the tasks. On one side, we focused on the design and back-end development, while on the other, we handled the training of the artificial intelligence and the programming of our smart camera.

Challenges we ran into

During the development of the camera, we encountered significant noise, requiring us to apply linear transformations to the image to achieve optimal quality. Additionally, when training our AI, we faced difficulties in defining a consistent model for the test file, as we struggled to effectively differentiate and classify the relevant data. Finally, while working with a relational database model, we experienced challenges in designing it to ensure an efficient and effective structure.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We take great pride in our project, as it was developed entirely from scratch. We experienced the process of becoming deeply invested in the idea, overcame the challenges mentioned earlier, and ultimately completed the project. The sense of accomplishment that comes from successfully coding something is always rewarding.

Additionally, we are proud of our ability to work effectively as a team. Throughout this experience, we discovered new aspects of ourselves, which has inspired us to continue striving for improvement.

What we learned

I learned that effective teamwork is essential for success. As we recognized each team member's unique strengths, we realized that we each excelled in different areas. This allowed us to successfully develop a comprehensive project by integrating various techniques and technologies.

We also discovered the value of _embracing new challenges when we feel capable of achieving them. Many of the solutions we implemented were learned on the spot, and this adaptability is undoubtedly one of the most valuable takeaways from this competition.

What's next for Ctrl + Alt + Pánico - Tec de Monterrey

We envision expanding this project, as it holds significant potential on a global scale. For instance, we aim to enhance its capacity by enabling the analysis of larger files and supporting multiple formats for test samples.

Furthermore, given that the project is entirely focused on education, it has the potential to become a standard for the unification of educational initiatives, providing everyone with access to quality education. This aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal #4, which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
